SPChRS high-voltage frequency converters are designed for frequency starting, rotational speed regulation, smooth (fluent) switching to a feeding network and braking of powerful synchronous motors.

One converter with 630-800A output current can provide simultaneous group starting of up to 4 to 6 non-loading electric drive units with CTD-12.5 engines over 1.5 to 2 minutes or 2 to 3 electric drive units with CTD-25. The converter is connected to the 6/10 kV network through the use of input current suppressing reactors, or under different rated network voltage through matching transformers.
The efficiency of SPChRS use as a component of variable frequency synchronous electric drives is allowed in order to save electricity, especially in a wide range of required rotational speed regulations (0.2 – 1.1 of the rated value).
SPChRS provides an automatic starting regime, a regime of electric drive acceleration up to synchronization with network frequency at the set pace, a regime of exact synchronization with network frequency and phase without inrush switching to the network, a regime of smooth (fluent) regulation and stabilization of engine rotational speed in a wide range, and regenerative braking up to the set frequency.
The converter has a developed protection system and a control and diagnostics system, thus making its operation easier.
Over the last several years ESTEL has continued to manufacture SPCHRS in accordance with special orders for parameters different from those listed in the table: for example, 15.75 kV/630 A, 10kV/160A etc.
The parts of SPChRS are as follows:
- Set of cabinets (rectifier, inverter, control cabinet, resistor cabinet) installed in line
- Current suppressing and smoothing reactors
- Overvoltage suppressing device
- Set of spare parts and adjustment devices for checking the control system.
