Cold Ironing & Onshore Power Supply (OPS) What It Means for Ports

Cold ironing (Onshore Power Supply — OPS, Alternative Maritime Power — AMP) is the practice of connecting a vessel at berth to the shore electrical grid, allowing it to shut down its diesel auxiliary engines. This eliminates exhaust emissions, noise, and vibration within the port area.

EU Regulation 2023/1804 requires major European ports to provide OPS infrastructure for container ships, passenger vessels, and offshore service ships from 2030 onward. TET ESTEL FCM Series converters are purpose-built for this application — handling 50 Hz ↔ 60 Hz conversion and voltage adaptation from 0.4 kV to 11 kV with output up to 16,000 kVA.

The FCM Series is built on power semiconductor devices manufactured to TET ESTEL's own specifications, ensuring long service life and consistent output quality.

Shore Power Applications Ports, Terminals & Shipyards

FCM Series converters are deployed at container terminals, cruise ship berths, ferry quays, naval bases, and shipyard dry-docks. Units are available as fixed quayside cabinets, infrastructure-integrated installations, or containerized plug-and-play modules for fast deployment at any berth.

All systems comply with IEC/ISO/IEEE 80005-1 (high voltage shore connection), operate at efficiency above 97%, and are rated for ambient temperatures from –40°C to +40°C with protection up to IP65.

Commissioning & After-Sales Service for Marine Power Systems

TET ESTEL service engineers provide on-site commissioning, operator training, and start-up support for every FCM installation. Long-term after-sales service and equipment retrofit are available for both TET ESTEL systems and third-party OPS equipment.
